(correspondent: zhao wei) during the 2016 science and technology week, to promote science popularization and foster teenagers' awareness of science and technology, the state key lab on marine coatings hosted a campus publicity event themed on “innovation, sharing and development” on may 20.
professor gui taijiang, deputy director of the state key lab for marine coatings and chief engineer of marine chemical research institute (mcri), and his lab engineers brought their latest research results to qingdao no. 19 middle school. they showed the latest scientific and technological innovations and organized interesting science popularization activities for students and introduced the latest fruits of mass entrepreneurship and mass innovation to them.
to begin with, prof. gui gave a brief account of the development history of mcri and the research directions of the lab and a lecture on the ocean and the marine coatings, introducing the audience into the world of marine coatings. then lab engineers showed examples of the application of their research results. last but not least, to show the green development of marine coatings, engineers prepared experiments on waterborne anticorrosive coatings and the uv-curable adhesive and invited students to do the experiments with them so that they could feel the magic of science and technology personally.
by organizing such public activities, the lab shows the general public the magic and charm of science. this year, they went to the campus and popularized science to middle school students to raise their awareness of science. lab director zhao jun said that they would organize more targeted and more interesting public activities in the future to encourage teenagers to foster the awareness of scientific innovation, interest in scientific research and the ambition to contribute to s&t development in china.
